On the stage for Kenny Rogers’ farewell concert, an emotional Dolly Parton joined Kenny Rogers on stage one more time.
Chris Stapleton, The Judds, Lionel Richie, Idina Menzel, Kris Kristofferson, Lady Antebellum and more took the stage for “All In For The Gambler” at the Bridgestone Arena in October 2017, but it was the appearance of Rogers with Dolly Parton that was the most anticipated event of the night.
Poised to become an emotional night, Kenny Rogers talked about working with Dolly Parton and having constructed that 30-year relationship. Rogers said the following:
“Working with Dolly is always emotional because we have so much history together,” he explained on their 30-year friendship. “Dolly is an old and dear friend. You either have old friends or you don’t and I have always had a friend in Dolly. We have always supported each other and have mutual respect.”
The concert of the night was the first time in 12 years that Parton, 71, and Rogers, 79, performed together in public, and marked the last time the two perform together as Kenny enters retirement, something he says is quite final.
Parton managed to surprise Rogers with Parton singing one of her monster hits,’ I Will Always Love You,’ with what could be a suitable song for the case.
As Dolly sang, and an emotional Kenny sat on a stool with his arm around her. The auditorium was silent, no doubt because, as they witnessed this truly private and heartfelt moment between these country music legends, everyone was fighting back tears.
