Walter Kloc, a 101-year-old World War II veteran, traveled some 1,500 miles to take part in the graduation of his grandson, Joseph Kloc from the Air Force Academy.

The elder Kloc flew all the way from Amherst, New York to commission his grandson, accompanied by his son and Joseph’s dad, William.

“I’m so excited for him,” William said WGRZ before the trip. “He’s fulfilling his dream and he was so excited that his grandfather, a World War II Air Force bombardier pilot, could come and commission him.”

The Air Force Academy said on Facebook: “Walter received a standing ovation, and everyone in the room was gifted with a memory they’ll never forget.”

On Facebook, Joseph Kloc called the ceremony “(p)robably one of the best days of my life.”
